Heartwood named a Top Ten Place and receives Award

Heartwood Artisan Gateway, opened 6 months ago in Abingdon, VA was recently named as a Top 10 destination for craft shopping by USA Today, with the help of American Style magazine.

Heartwood was also recently awarded a First Lady’s Opportunity Hall of Fame award, which recognizes "programs, activities, organizations and individuals who embody the ideal of creating a Commonwealth of Opportunity in their communties." This program was launched in 2010 by First Lady Maureen McDonnell. Originated by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development, Heartwood is a new 30,000 square foot tourist destination in Southwest Virginia, which opened in June of 2011. Heartwood was designed by 1717 Design Group to showcase the talents of the region’s diverse community of artisans and musicians while enticing visitors to explore and support Southwest Virginia’s wealth of cultural, natural, and commercial attractions.
